Hey Members!!!!!!!

The Contract Negotiation Process Explained

Keep in Mind that the Unions job is to NEGOTIATE wages , benefits and working conditions with the company.

Meanwhile the company is for profit, hence seeks to maximize profits,  a not necessarily good objective for all involved.

remember there is give and take

Late January or February

members were asked for bargaining proposals-suggestions for improvement or change in    the contract.

In or about March

member campaigned for the bargaining committe spots.

In late March early April

District 7 compiled all of the bargaining proposals removing  any that revolved around pay raises.

HWAC and District 7 met with the company about healthcare and got a dose of you'll take the managers plan and like it and that is the only option.

In May at the District 7 meeting.

The local delegates ranked the proposal in order of importance and elected the bargaining committee member postions. At the end of the meeting the Distict 7 staff gave a presentation of the roadblocks and possible pitfalls during the years negotiations. In fact, one local tried to get Distict to go all or nothing in these negotiations.  Thankfully, that obsticle was removed. And the bargaining committee got a vote of full confidence. At that meeting the Union was infomed by the Company that negotiations and other correspondence are propreitary and if the Union didn't take steps to protect the information they would be sued in Federal Court.

In June at the International Convention

More discussion withsthe local elected delegated centered around the 900 pound healthcare gorialla in the room.

In July bargaining started.........you can find short summaries of each day on the web........however YOU CANNOT find transcripts of what was discussed.

As of now, there are details coming out on some of the changes......

The local presidents will meet in Denver for a contract explanation meeting towars the end of the month.

The locals will then have a Q&A meeting with their members......

Then members get to vote on ratification..........

So this contract is not ratified or accepted by the members yet......

Please don't believe everthing you hear!!!!!!!!!!!!
